I would not advise people to move to UK without a job offer either. I read in the documents that the VISA is granted for 2 years.

If you are sick of the GC retrogression and Canada is not your cup of tea, UK is another option for you. You can calculate your points online to see if you are qualified for the UK Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP). It is always good to more than one option.

Folks,
What is the best and most cost effective way to send some money home ?
Till last year I was using the service from icici and was under the belief that the exchange rate was pretty decent. the service I believe was never free as they make up for service fee though the exchange rate.
Today for example when I check on icici it says they will give a rate of 47.63 per $ which I believe means around half a rupee less per $ ?
so for $1000 they are essentially charging Rs 500 (aound $10)
I beleive previously they were giving around 25 paise less per $ and now it looks like it is 50 paise less per dollor ?
Western union charges $15 and also gives a lower exchange rate than icici.
So would that mean ICICI isthe best cost effective one ?
Ideas ?

Folks, wanted to share the feedback from my immigration attorney, the attorney office which did my h1b, h4, eb3 etc, it is a pretty big firm and has good reputation.
The attorney clearly told me, that as long as there is no salary and if it is volunteering then we can go ahead whether it is profit making or non-profit it does not matter.
Now im still confused what do i do......
to be on safer side i may suggest going for non-profit org.

I have ALWAYS gone in T-shirt and Jeans and never had a problem. They dont really care about your appearance, although it is a good idea to dress decently.Go in a Halloween costume. Am just kidding, any decent looking dress would be fine..

Similarly, it is possible, in certain limited situations, to transfer a priority date from an approved I-130 petition to a later family-based filing. On occasion, however, it is difficult to make the service centers aware that the beneficiary has an earlier priority date.

A brightly-colored, flagged sheet of paper should be included to indicate that there is an earlier priority date. Is that mean i can file I-485 with my previously approved I-140? I have also drop an email to my HR regarding the same. We do not have direct access to Attorney as every thing has to be directed by HR.

Just take out this phrase in the list
or increase them to rational levels such as 10%-15%

My wife is on H1-B valid till May-2010 and she got EAD for 2 years as well.
She is planning to take up permanent job at the client place she is currently working as a consultant.
What is the best? tranfering the H1-B or using EAD. Does she need to invok e AC-21 in bothe the cases?

It is totally upto you for taking up the job. But working without getting paid means you are giving in to exploitation.
But then, a lot of people, in their early stages of their career can do small sacrifices to learn the skill.
The only issue would be that your consulting company would be charging a heft sum to the client and pay you nothing.
Remember, legally you are not supposed while on h4.

GC is for future employment but I-140 is not GC. I-485 is Adjustment of status to Permanent resident (GC).
If you leave the company prior I-140 approval. I-140, I-485, EAD & AP are canceled.
If your I-140 is approved and I-485 is pending for more than 180 days, then and only then, you can switch company using AC21 while still keeping your I-485 pending.
Mind you, I-140 is not your application, it is employers!
See my previous statement. There is nothing in the law that states one needs to 'work' for a company when I140 is being processed. Period.

but usually dates opens up if any cancellation. check vfs site often. nowadays it is easier to get appt than it used to be.

As you mentioned i kept checking the chennai consulate, and it opened up like a blessing in disguise, with slots again and i was able to get my dates .Only problem was it forced me to cancel my earlier appointment and redo all the application again .That was because i had booked an appointment with Mumbai consulate in distress of not finding any with chennai .

The statistics they have provided might be correct but useless for any PD date information. Applications include all kinds of 485s, AP, EAD and renewals.
If USCIS really wanted to provide statistics they should have provided how many EB based 485s they have (further dividing them by PD year and country), and same thing for family based. Clubbing these two together is stupid.

Hmm thats weird. So what is porting? Does it mean that you can port from EB2 to EB2 only? I was thinking since I have my approved labor and I140 on EB3 and now as I have gained more experience and my salary meets the criteria I should be able to port from EB2 to EB3. If this is not the case then it is messed up.
BTW dentist, I am starting a new job by the end of this month and need to talk to the employer on my situation as they are willing to help me with my paperwork. that is why it is urgent.
Anyone has any insight to this matter.

Usually, the I-485 application is considered abandoned and eventually denied if you dont show up for finger printing...
However, if your I-140 from the previous employer is approved, you can still use that to port your PD to your current petition...You might need a copy of the old I-140 approval to do so....

Sorry, if this is already discussed mutiple times. I was not able to find any Info.
My Wife needs to travel to India urgently. She is currently on F1 Visa and has EAD and Advance Parole.
While Coming back is it required to use AP or can she come back on F1. Please help me with some info or pointers to exisitng threads discussing this are greatly appreciated
